How can I pay?
- I sell and take orders for Fresh scallops December - March. I start taking orders in October for the season.
How soon can I get them? Do I need to order in advance?
- After you place an order, I will provide an estimate of when the scallops will be available. All scallops are sold the same day they are caught. I do not have frozen or "old" inventory in stock. I will call you the day they are available for pickup. All orders are processed in the order they are received. If you are not available on the day I call for pickup but still want the scallops I will add you back to the bottom of the list.
- All my orders are taken in advance. Most of the time I will not have scallops available the same day you order. During peak season (December - New Year) my waiting list is typically 2-3 weeks out. My catch is limited by state regulations (I can only fish during set week days, usually Monday-Thursday, with an occasional Friday), weather (Maine weather/wind can be fierce in the winter), and like all businesses staffing and mechanical failures can delay production. I try to communicate upfront anticipated timelines, unfortunately sometimes mother nature or a mechanical failure complicated by a slow supply chain throws me a curve ball and delays are encountered.
Where/when do I pick them up? Do you ship?
- I will call you the day that scallops are ready to be picked up, this can range from early afternoon-early evening, depending on how soon I make it back to shore. We can then make arrangements to pick them up, typically at my house in Brooksville ME. I am not shipping scallops currently. Occasionally, I will be in other Maine cities or towns (at this point Bucksport or Orono are the most likely options) and we can make arrangements for pick up there.
How do you calculate a 9 lb gallon or 3 lb quart?
- Weight is approximate. I use Ziploc freezer bags and my bags are stuffed absolutely full, so actual weight is dependent on scallops.
How do you determine different prices?
- Seafood prices may vary daily and may be subject to change at any time until payment is received. I will notify you in advance of pickup if this occurs. They are set by various conditions, basic economics - supply and demand, what local fisherman are catching and selling for, expenses, and also what prices dealers and seafood auction houses are paying.
